FILARIAS (FILARIASIS)

It is a parasitic disease caused by filarias - «Wuchereria bancrofti». The disease was described by Vuhererom (1867), the agent was identified by Bancroft (1877).

Filaria of family «Onchocercidae» causes human bancroftian filariasis (bankroftozhelm). It is helminthiasis, lymphatic system characterized by lesions and development in the late phase of elephantiasis (elephantiasis) of the lower limbs.

Filariasis is distributed in Africa, the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and America.

The sources: Vectors filarias Bancroft are mosquitoes, ticks less frequently, which infects the larvae of blood sucking definitive host and, in turn, infect new vertebrate animals or humans. Source of infestation - a sick man, with bloodsucking mosquitoes that ingest microfilariae.

Modes of transmission: The final boss - a man in between - mosquito genera «Culex», «Aedes» and «Mansonia» and «Anopheles». Human infection occurs through the bite of insects.

Form of existence: In the body of the carrier after 8-35 days the larvae become infective and insect bites a person get into his body. The larvae circulate in the blood, which turn into adults, which infest the lymph nodes and vessels.

The symptoms of falariasis:

The waste products of helminths cause intoxication of the human body, mechanically injure the lymphatic vessels and nodes. It can also join the secondary bacterial infection. The incubation period lasts from 3-4 months to 2 years:

First stage. Characterized by fever, allergic rashes (mainly on the skin of the hands), often observed increase in lymph nodes. Change their shape and pain, pneumonia and mastitis occur;

The second stage (cherez2-7 years after infection) is characterized by inflammation and varicose lymphatic vessels, may their tears with the development of chyluria (urine becomes milky jelly) chyloperitoneum (accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the abdominal cavity) hilotsele (tumor containing lymph ) and hileznoy diarrhea;

The third (obstructive) stage is characterized by the development of elephantiasis of the lower extremities, less sexual organs. The consequences of parasitism in the body. Affected filarias places (legs, breasts, groin) is sharply increasing in size.
