TREATMENT OF DIABETES TYPE 1
Over the past ten year strategy for treating type I diabetes has changed dramatically. Until 1980, the standard insulin therapy consisted of a fixed dose in the form of one or two injections of a mixture of regular insulin and NPH insulin, specific diet and exercise adherence, as well as samples for glucose in urine.
The availability of self-control of blood glucose, the use of schemes of insulin in the form of multiple doses and the evolution of specialized centers for the treatment of diabetes has markedly improved glycemic control in patients.
Using this approach, the interest in implementing schemes of intensive therapy has increased considerably thanks to the latest research results on diabetes and its complications.
